BKV, a Colorado-based energy company focused on sustainably developing and delivering low-carbon energy solutions and baseload power, has begun operations at two new carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) facilities in Texas.
The Eagle Ford facility, situated near Freer in South Texas, and the Cotton Cove facility, located in the Fort Worth Basin, are expected to sequester over 120,000t of CO₂ annually.
The Eagle Ford plant is the first new CCS facility to become operational under BKV’s joint venture with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), following the inclusion of the Barnett Zero project.
The site captures emissions from a natural gas processing plant handling Eagle Ford Shale production.
BKV acquires the CO₂ waste stream from this facility, compresses the gas and transports it to a nearby injection well for permanent geological storage.
The Texas Railroad Commission approved the site’s Class II injection well, while the US Environmental Protection Agency provided Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) plan approval.
An investment decision for the Eagle Ford facility was reached in mid-December 2024.
BKV retains all environmental credits generated from this project at present, with the site projected to sequester around 90,000t of CO₂ each year.

“This project demonstrates the strength of our strategy and shared commitment to scaling and expanding carbon capture infrastructure solutions.”
Cotton Cove, a joint undertaking between BKV and Banpu Power US, captures and sequesters CO₂ from BKV’s midstream plant via a Class II underground injection well.
The site is expected to average around 32,000t of CO₂ sequestration annually throughout its operational lifetime.

The addition of Eagle Ford and Cotton Cove brings the number of BKV-operated CCS facilities in Texas to three.
The company continues to progress additional carbon sequestration projects and has set a goal of reaching an annual CO₂ injection rate of 1.5 million metric tonnes by 2028.
