Tests on Turboatom’s two Francis hydraulic turbines have been successfully completed at La Yesca HPP in northwest of Guadalajara, Mexico by the Norwegian consultancy firm Sweco.

Turbines have been put into commercial operation with a warranty period of two years.

Carried out using absolute thermodynamic method, the tests confirmed guarantees on capacity and efficiency of the turbine and the maximum head the capacity of the turbine reached 434.6MW with weighted average efficiency of 426.13MW.

In 2008, Turboatom had secured a contract to manufacture and supply two Francis hydrounits for La Yesca HPP, each with a capacity of 380MW and runner diametre of 5.3m with built-in ring valves.

The company completed the manufacture and supply of the units in 2010, while the two hydro units with a total nominal capacity of 750MW were put into operation in October and November 2012, respectively.

Located on the Rio Grande River in the state of Nayarit, La Yesca HPP will significantly contribute to the peak power demand in western Mexico as well as increase the capacity to regulate the Santiago River that will enhance the generation capacity of the El Cajon and Aguamilpa dams.
