Danish wind turbine producer Vestas Wind Systems has secured an order from Bordelum III GmbH & Co. KG to supply 42MW of wind turbines for its citizen-owned wind power plant in northern Germany.

The turbines, which will be installed in Bordelum at the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, are scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2013 while the commissioning is likely to be in the first half of 2014.

The scope of the contract includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of 14 V112-3MW wind turbines, along with a VestasOnline business SCADA solution and a 15-year full-scope service agreement.

Once operational, the wind farm will produce over 140GWh of electricity per year, which is enough to cover the residential electricity consumption of more than 35,000 German four-person-households.

Vestas Central Europe president Thomas Richterich said, "It is a pleasure for us to announce a 42MW order for our successful turbine model V112.3MW – all the more so realizing a citizen-owned wind power plant in Schleswig-Holstein in collaboration with our new customer Bordelum III.

"Citizen-owned wind power plants are one of the best ways to ensure the particularly high acceptance level among German communities and this is what we see especially in northern Germany. It is highly encouraging to see initiatives like Bordelum III become a reality," Richterich added.
