Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, a US-based energy company, has granted a solar module supply contract to Chinese photovoltaic modules manufacturer Trina Solar for its 345MWdc solar power project.

As per the contract, the solar company will provide 1,133,550 dual-rated, 72-cell PD14 solar modules to Copper Mountain Solar 3 project situated near Las Vegas, Nevada through its American unit, Trina Solar Americas.

The American power company has recently selected UK-based engineering company, AMEC, for the construction of the project.

Commenting on the agreement, Trina Solar Americas president Mark Mendenhall said that the event affirms the company’s capabilities in meeting the evolving demands of customers in a maturing market.

"We look forward to completing this project and powering tens of thousands of homes with clean, reliable solar power," added Mendenhall.

Trina Solar will subject the modules under contract to its rigorous factory and site testing to ensure high standards of performance and reliability, the company said.

AMEC president Tom Dotson said, "Trina Solar is uniquely qualified to provide solar panels to this project.

"Their modules’ track-record of proven performance and their strong balance sheet made them an easy choice for Copper Mountain Solar 3."

Delivery of the solar modules is expected to start from the fourth quarter of 2013, with construction scheduled for completion in first quarter of 2015.

Following its completion, the solar project will provide renewable electricity to 80,000 homes for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and the City of Burbank.
