EDF EN Canada, a subsidiary of renewable energy developer EDF Energies Nouvelles, has commenced commercial operations at two wind projects, totaling 300MW capacity, in Quebec.

The Massif du Sud farm and the first phase of the Lac Alfred Wind Project both have an installed capacity of 150MW and were developed at a combined cost of $700m.

Massif du Sud is located in the municipalities of Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse and Saint-Magloire while the Lac Alfred Phase 1 project is located in Lac Alfred.

Commenting on the commencement of operations EDF EN Canada COO Al Kurzenhauser highlighted the role played by the company’s partners – REpower, CER, and Borea – in making the projects a reality.

The two projects employ 75 REpower wind turbines each and will sell their combined output to local utility Hydro-Quebec under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

EDF EN Canada project development director Alex Couture noted, "Throughout the 20-year contract with Hydro-Quebec, the municipalities concerned by these projects will receive a combined annual contribution of over $600,000."
