Concept: Singapore’s tech startup NextBillion.ai and Netherlands-based company GeoJunxion have partnered to launch the world’s first low emission zone (LEZ)-focused routing application programming interface (APIs). NextBillion.ai intends to meet the specific requirements of the logistics and delivery market with its mapping solution.

Nature of Disruption: NextBillion.ai offers an optimizer that assigns appropriate orders to vehicles that comply with LEZ emissions standards and a Road Editor tool to prevent non-compliant vehicles from entering the zone. The platform can provide customized geocodes that identify the precise delivery location. It includes day-long delivery constraints that are either temporary or permanent. The system makes use of previous speed profiles in wide-distance matrixes. It offers real-time enhanced traffic-aware scheduling (ETAS) and informs dispatchers, drivers, and clients of accurate delivery schedules. NextBillion.ai’s Navigation software development toolkit (SDK) and the app also give drivers turn-by-turn directions.

Outlook: Currently, delivery companies have to pay hundreds of thousands of euros in fines and fees each year to deliver goods in non-conforming vehicles or operate them through LEZ. NextBillion.ai and GeoJunxion’s logistics optimization and routing software are specifically designed for the European LEZ. With the NextBillion.ai + GeoJunxion solution, d deliveries within an LEZ are only granted to vehicles that comply with LEZ regulations. To avoid costly fines, non-low-emission vehicles are detoured around these regions rather than through them.
