India-based green energy company Serentica Renewables has commissioned the first phase of its 1GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
The initiative marks the company’s entry into large-scale energy storage for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.

The newly launched phase comprises a 200MWh BESS that aims to store excess renewable power produced during daylight hours, making it available during times of high demand, particularly at night.
The Bikaner project is connected to what is described as one of the world’s first time block Round the Clock (RTC) renewable power arrangements for industrial users.
Serentica states that this approach demonstrates how battery storage can turn variable renewable generation into steady, all-hours power supply for energy-intensive sectors.
The modular design of the BESS is intended to allow for scalability, operational flexibility and a rapid response to changing grid demands.
The system has been developed to support grid stability and to help increase the share of renewables within the overall energy mix.

The Bikaner facility represents the initial stage of a wider battery storage strategy at Serentica Renewables.
The company has indicated plans for a battery order pipeline totalling 7GWh over the next two years, targeting the development of one of India’s largest battery portfolios serving the C&I segment.
