Noon Energy and Sabanci Renewables have agreed to jointly develop up to 1GW of ultra-long duration energy storage (ultra-LDES) projects to support AI infrastructure.

The collaboration aims to combine Noon Energy’s reversible electrofuels battery systems with Sabanci Renewables’ clean energy portfolio, delivering continuous renewable power.

The joint initiative is designed to provide 24/7 renewable electricity through projects structured as power purchase agreements (PPAs) or capacity offtake agreements. The partners aim to achieve a total storage capacity of up to 100GWh.

According to the companies, this approach addresses increasing demand for energy storage capable of supporting large-scale solar and wind resources, particularly for AI-related operations that require reliable, round-the-clock power supply.

Sabanci Renewables, which operates as part of the Sabanci Group, is targeting a 3GW renewable portfolio in the US over the next five years.

The energy storage projects with Noon Energy would contribute towards achieving this capacity target.

Sabanci Climate Ventures, an investor in Noon and a related company to Sabanci Renewables, has helped facilitate the agreement.

Commercial deployment of the joint projects could start as soon as 2027.

Noon Energy CEO Chris Graves said: “Partnering with an established and forward-thinking company like Sabanci Renewables marks a critical step in accelerating the path to commercialisation for our ultra-LDES technology.

“In this cooperation we will develop the commercial, technical and operational frameworks to unlock a 100% reliable and renewable grid for cents per kWh using multi-day energy storage.”

As they advance the partnership, the two companies plan to define technical, commercial and operational frameworks.

Sabanci Renewables chief growth officer Murat Oguz Arcan said: “We are pleased to support Noon in this endeavour, and in doing so, we are opening new investment opportunities for Sabanci Renewables.

“We believe that supporting the growth of AI through innovative power solutions is essential to enabling timely, sustainable growth.”

Sabanci Renewables is expected to offer project development and investment capabilities, while Noon Energy will focus on scaling manufacturing, technical implementation and operations management.

The companies said the projects are intended to demonstrate that multi-day energy storage can make continuous, clean power supply feasible for both customers and the grid.

In April, Meta signed an agreement with Noon Energy to secure up to 1GW of energy storage capacity, amounting to 100GWh, for its data centres.
