Van Oord has selected Avantha Group Company CG, along with the other consortium partners Fabricom and Iemants, for the offshore wind project, Gemini, in the Netherlands.

Under the contract, which is valued in excess of €150m for the consortium, CG will design, deliver and install two high voltage (HV) offshore substations and one HV onshore substation.

The project construction is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2014 and will be completed in 2016.

Located 85kms north of the island of Schiermonnikoog in the Dutch North Sea, Gemini project features two offshore wind farms including Buitengaats (300MW) and ZeeEnergie (300MW).

With total 600MW of installed capacity, the project will produce electricity for over 785,000 households which equals a reduction in emissions of 1,250,000 tons of CO2.

Avantha Group Company CG CEO and managing director Laurent Demortier said that the transaction is consistent with Avantha Group’s renewable energy strategy.

CG will be responsible to design and engineer the overall electrical HV system as well as manufacture and supply all key equipment and connect the onshore substation to the 400kV Tennet high voltage grid.
