Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has acquired 148MW (MW) Cactus Flats wind facility in Texas from Renewable Energy Systems Americas. (RES).
Southern Power president and CEO Buzz Miller said: "With the energy landscape constantly changing, we remain focused on strategic opportunities that support our business objectives.
"The Cactus Flats Wind Facility is an important addition to our growing renewable portfolio and will provide value to our customers through clean, safe, reliable and affordable wholesale energy."
With the addition of Cactus Flats, Southern Power now owns nine wind facilities, which in total produce over 1,500MW of power.
Southern Power's wind facilities are part of Southern Company's 3,400MW renewable fleet, comprising 37 solar, wind and biomass facilities.
Since 2012, Southern Company group in total has added or announced over 6,500MW of renewable power.

By GlobalDataSituated in Concho County, the 148MW project will comprise 43 wind turbines manufactured by Vestas, which will also jointly maintain and operate the facility with Southern Power following the project completion.
The project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year.
RES, which developed the project, will also undertake the remaining plant construction.
