Siemens has been awarded a contract worth €1.5bn for the delivery of 150 turbines for the Gemini offshore wind power project to be built in the North Sea, Netherlands.
Under the contract, Siemens will supply turbines with a capacity of 4MW each and a rotor diameter of 130m to the 600MW project.
The contract also includes a provision of service and maintenance for the project for a period of 15 years.
Siemens Energy Services CEO Randy Zwirn said wind energy is becoming more important to the world’s energy mix.
"Therefore wind turbines need to operate at optimum levels over their entire service life," Zwirn added.
"This record achievement for our offshore wind service business underscores confidence in the highly advanced and innovative service logistics concept we created for Gemini, which is a direct result of the significant investments we make in R&D and the years of experience we have as the world’s leading offshore service provider."

By GlobalDataThe total construction budget is estimated to be around €3bn for the Gemini wind power project, which has a 2.6TWh of electricity generation capacity per year.
According to Siemens, a helicopter will be available for a project at all times and a specially designed, purpose-built service operation vessel (SOV) will be based at the wind farm.
