Dong Energy has selected J. Murphy & Sons for construction of a substation for the 580MW Race Bank offshore wind project in UK.
The substation will be developed onshore beside the Walpole substation and be connected to the national grid in the country.
Under the terms of a £21.8m contract, the Danish firm is expected to deliver the substation by 2016.
The contract also involves delivery of substation equipment which will link it with the offshore wind farm and the country’s power grid.

The project will offer enough power to electrify 400,000 UK homes, when commissioned.
In December 2013, the project was purchased by the Danish power developer from Centrica for a £50m investment.
Dong Energy had invested for purchasing the wind project from Centrica in December 2013, and acquired approvals from UK authorities for its construction and operation.
