A consortium comprising Iberdrola Ingeniería and Gamesa has completed the construction of Ngong II wind farm in Kenya.

Backed by Spanish Enterprise Internationalisation Fund, the project was awarded by the state-owned Kenyan Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) in a contract worth €21.4m.

Work under the project included design, purchasing equipment, construction, assembling all of the components, connection to the electricity grid and maintenance over at least a year.

The project was completed two months in advance of the scheduled date.

Located about 30kms west of Nairobi, the wind farm employs 16 Gamesa-manufactured G52 wind turbines and it has an installed capacity of around 13.6MW.

Commissioned as part of an initiative involving electricity distribution networks and renewable energies, the project will equip the region with a reliable and modern electricity system.
