Pertamina Geothermal Energy has awarded designing, procurement and construction contracts to a joint venture (JV) formed by Hawkins and Banguan Cipta Kontractor (BCK) for two of its geothermal projects in Indonesia.

According to the contracts, Hawkins will install the power equipments at the Lumut Balai and Karaha geothermal power stations.

While the Lumut Balai project will have equipment manufactured by Toshiba, the Karaha facility will feature by power equipment supplied by Alstom.

The first project is located at a remote site in South West Sumatra which is 1300m above sea level and the latter will be developed 1200m above sea level in West Java.

Construction work for both the projects have started from January 2015, which is expected to last for 24 and 23 months for Lumut Balai and Karaha projects respectively.

Hawkins Group CEO Geoff Hunt said: "We are utilising specialist knowledge and skills that we have developed on geothermal projects in New Zea-land, and partner with local contractors to best utilise combined expertise."
