Foresight Renewable Solutions will install Imergy Power Systems’ ESP30 series vanadium-based flow batteries for a smart microgrid project in the US.
The California Energy Commission (CEC) backed project includes the installation of batteries for demand charge, load shifting, solar firming and off-grid applications.
It is aimed at developing applications and use-case scenarios to optimize power consumption at military bases, college campuses, industrial parks and other institutions.
The project will feature three Imergy ESP30 series vanadium-based flow batteries, a 50 kW PV solar panel system and Growing Energy Labs’ (GELI) Energy Operating System (EOS).
It will be deployed at the US Navy’s Mobile Utilities Support Equipment facility in Port Hueneme, California.
Currently, the US Navy generates 12% of its annual energy needs from renewable sources.
