Dong Energy has awarded substation automation contracts to French company Alstom for its three offshore wind farms in the UK.

The tree offshore wind farms includes Race Bank project off the Norfolk Coast, Burbo Bank Extension in Liverpool Bay, and the Walney Extension in the Irish Sea.

Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm in Norfolk Coast will have maximum capacity of 580MW which will produce enough energy to power 400,000 UK homes.
Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm will be located 19km off the Cumbrian coast and will have maximum capacity of 660MW.

DONG energy has already started construction work of the onshore project of Burbo Bank Extension, which will have a power generation capacity of 258MW.

Alstom said that all the projects are in different stages of development, and will feature Alstom Grid’s DS Agile digital control system.

DS Agile is the next generation digital control system for smart substations, which will allow its customers to protect, monitor and control the assets in the farm.
