ABB has secured a contract from DONG Energy for the supply of high-voltage export cable system for power transmission from the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm in the UK.
Under the $30m contract, ABB will design, engineer, supply and commission 25km long 220kV AC submarine cable and the related offshore substation cable.
The company will also supply 32km of AC underground cables and the associated substation cables as well as the cable joints, accessories and terminations related to the project.
ABB power systems division head Claudio Facchin said: "Offshore wind is making an increasing contribution to boost the share of renewables in Europe’s energy mix and this project will support the UK Government’s efforts in this area.
"ABB has considerable experience in executing such projects and the technologies to support the efficient integration of renewables into the grid."
The high-voltage AC cable system will also help integrate more wind power and support renewable energy targets.
The extension facility, which covers 40km² area, will be located next to the existing 90MW Burbo Bank wind farm, which is situated on the Burbo Flats in Liverpool.
