Canada-based Convertus Group has secured C$135m ($96m) in project financing for its flagship biofuel facility in York Region, Ontario.
The arrangement was completed with Power Sustainable Infrastructure Credit (PSIC) providing the funds and advisory services from Selkirk Advisory Group.

Convertus said financial close marks a key step in preparing the site for commissioning and subsequent commercial launch.
Convertus chief financial officer Jamie Jongsma said: “We are grateful for PSIC’s partnership and for the expertise and guidance provided by Selkirk Advisory Group throughout the financing process.
“This facility represents the next generation of anaerobic digestion infrastructure and demonstrates how innovative technologies can transform organic waste into renewable energy and valuable low-carbon products.”
The York Region facility is designed to process up to 200,000t of source-separated organic waste per year.
Its annual output is expected to reach between 350,000 gigajoules and 400,000 gigajoules of renewable natural gas that could meet the annual heating requirements of nearly 5,000 local homes.
Alongside this, the operation will produce low-carbon liquid fertiliser and food-grade liquefied carbon dioxide, handling diverse waste streams for resource recovery.
PSIC principal Benjamin Shenwick said: “The York Biofuel Facility will provide essential environmental infrastructure for York Region and the Greater Toronto Area, adding critical long-term organics processing capacity through a state-of-the-art facility designed with robust operational redundancy.
“Convertus’ high-calibre team has developed a top-tier project that combines advanced technology with meaningful circular-economy and decarbonisation benefits. We are pleased to support Convertus as the facility advances toward commercial operations.”
Construction of the biofuel plant continues according to schedule, with commissioning due to begin later in the year. Convertus anticipates starting formal operations in early 2027.
Convertus stated the York Region plant will act as the flagship site in its expanding organics infrastructure portfolio, furthering its approach to advanced technology deployment in renewable energy and circular product production.
The facility is described as Canada’s first biofuel plant to integrate carbon dioxide liquefaction technology.
