ALLETE Clean Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ALLETE, has plans to construct, own and operate an 80MW wind energy facility near Great Falls, Montana.

This facility will supply power to North Western Energy under a signed 15-year power sale agreement.

ALLETE Clean Energy purchased the South Peak project from Peak Clean Energy and will manage construction of the wind
facility.
The facility is expected to come onstream by late 2019.

ALLETE Clean Energy president Al Rudeck said: “We’re excited to be working with our newest customer in NorthWestern Energy, and hope this project leads to more opportunities together in the future.

“This expansion of our portfolio across the high-quality northern wind corridor demonstrates the power of our growth strategy which leverages our capabilities to build lasting partnerships that advance, construct and operate renewable facilities across North America.”

The South Peak project will make use of GE wind turbines and will be built adjacent to North Western Energy’s existing Spion Kop wind facility.
It will supply power via a direct connection to North Western’s transmission grid.

GE’s Onshore Wind Business president and CEO Pete McCabe said: “ALLETE shares our unwavering commitment to renewable energy, and this is another great example of how we can work together to deliver affordable, sustainable power to communities across the US.”

Last year, ALLETE Clean Energy announced its plans to build and optimize a 106MW wind energy facility in Morton and Mercer counties in North Dakota to produce power to Northern States Power.
