Description

The project was developed by Bangweulu Power, First Solar and Neoen. The project is currently owned by Bangweulu Power with a stake of 100%.

West Lunga Solar PV Park is a ground-mounted solar project which is spread over an area of 52 hectares.

The project generates 100,000MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 30,000 households, offsetting 19,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

Development status

The project got commissioned in March 2019.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to ZESCO under a power purchase agreement. The power is sold at the rate of $0.06kWh for a period of 25 years. The contracted capacity is 47.5MW.

Contractors involved

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the solar PV power project.

First Solar was selected as the supplier of the PV modules for the project. The company installed 453,000 modules at the site.

Bangweulu Power and Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy were contracted to render operations & maintenance services for the project.
