Description

Hanul 4 (Ulchin 4) is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Combustion Engineering, Doosan Enerbility and Korea Engineering and Construction, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,052MW reactor is owned and operated by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. The company has a stake of 100%.

The PWR reactor generates 6,182.87GWh/annum of electricity. It features 177 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 28 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Nov, 1993 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Dec, 1999.

Doosan Enerbility was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 4 steam turbines for the project. KEPCO Engineering and Construction and Korea Engineering and Construction were selected as the architect engineers for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA508 Cl3). The civil works were carried out by DongAh Construction Industrial.
