Of all renewable energy sources, the share of solar PV power generation capacity is forecasted to change from 11% in 2023 to 26% in 2035.

The share of solar thermal power will remain constant at 1.5% in 2035 from 2023. Biopower is forecast to account for 0.6% share of the UAE’s total electricity generation capacity in 2035, as against 0.1% share in 2023. The share of hydropower in 2035 is expected to be 0.3% in 2035.

In terms of capacity additions, the total renewable energy capacity is expected to see 14240.44 MW of additions in the UAE during the forecast period while the non-renewable energy segment is likely to see 4819 MW of additions.

CAGR growth of key renewables in the UAE

Renewable generation capacity in the UAE is expected to reach 21GW in 2035 at a CAGR of 10% during 2023-2035.

Wind power is expected to record highest growth rate of 40.16% by 2035, followed by biopower with 25%. Other renewable energy sources such as Solar PV and solar thermal are estimated to have growth rates of 10% and 3% respectively.

Hydrogen and CCS plants in pipeline in the UAE

A total of eight hydrogen and 23 carbon capture and storage (CCS) plants are expected to be developed in the UAE by the end of 2035.
