The top five companies accounted for 44% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that RTX filed the most 3D printing patents within the power industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 14 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 25 in the previous quarter. It was followed by General Electric with 5 3D printing patent filings, Eaton Corporation (4 filings), and Tokamak Energy (4 filings) in Q1 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 54% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the power industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 54%, followed by China (12%) and Japan (6%). The share represented by the US was 16% higher than the 38% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
