Alstom has won a contract with TuuliMuukko to provide wind turbines for 21MW project called the Muukko wind farm located near Lappeenranta in Eastern Finland.

The Muukko wind farm will use seven wind turbines of ECO110 3.0MW type to generate clean power in the region.

Under the contract, Alstom will supply, transport, and install the wind turbines at the site and it will also operate and maintain them for 12 years.

TuuliMuukko Oy board chairman Vesa Eskoli said the company has carefully selected the turbine supplier using the thorough technical know-how in Tuulisaimaa.

"We believe in Alstom’s reliability as a supplier to deliver this reference project in an exemplary way providing high availability of the turbines," Eskoli added.

Alstom wind business senior vice president Alfonso Faubel said, "This new contract in Finland strengthens our wind installed base in Europe, and reflects our customers’ interest in our innovative turbines suitable to extreme winter-weather conditions."

The company will manufacture the turbines with rotor diameter of 110m and hub height of 90m at its facilities in Spain and will also feature a Cold Climate Version to suit the Finnish winter conditions.

The installation of the turbines is planned to commence in early 2013 and the first commercial delivery is expected to take place in June 2013.

Finland government has set a target of up to 2,500MW of clean electricity from wind energy to be achieved by 2020.

TuuliMuukko is co-owned by TuuliTapiola, a private equity firm, and Tuulisaimaa, a wind farm developer.
