O2 Vind will develop, construct and operate the wind project for IKEA.

Under the contract, Vestas will supply, install, and commission the wind turbines and the nature of the work also includes a 15 year AOM 5000, service and maintenance agreement.

Vestas Wind Systems Global MarCom & Customer Insights global senior vice president Morten Albaek said while the world’s governments have done a lot for the wind industry, it is not enough.

"The world’s largest companies also need to take responsibility and help drive the change in the energy mix towards clean and reliable energy," Albaek added.

"As carbon conscious companies like IKEA pioneers the way, Vestas expects increased activity in this fast growing segment."

Vestas is scheduled to deliver the wind turbines during the month of May 2014 and the project is expected to be completed in the month of January 2015.

IKEA is expecting to generate 70% to 80% of its total global electricity requirement from renewable energy, once the project starts operations in 2015.

With the new order placement, IKEA’s fleet of vestas turbines stands over 115MW across Sweden, France, UK and Denmark.
