Northwind, a Belgian developer, has placed an order with Vestas for an undisclosed amount, to supply turbines for the 216MW Northwind Offshore Wind Farm in Belgium.

The offshore wind project Northwind Offshore Wind Farm to be constructed on the Bank Zonder Naam off the coast of Zeebrugge, will use 72 units of Vestas turbines of V112-3.0MW type to produce clean electricity.

Vestas, under the order, will supply the wind turbines, install, and commission them for the project and will also offer a 15 year service and maintenance agreement.

Northwind NV CEO Frank Coenen said, "I believe the V112-3.0 MW is a very competitive turbine, and I look forward to seeing it perform at Northwind."

Vestas Wind Systems chief sales officer Juan Araluce said, "This is a very important milestone for Vestas, as we look to strengthen our position within offshore."

Vestas Offshore senior vice president Uffe Vinther-Schou said, "With this new 216 MW offshore project in Belgium, it has been a pleasure to see the very close collaboration and mutual understanding between our teams going back to the very first engagements in 2008."
