Vimmerby Energi & Miljö AB project manager Mats-Lennart Karlsson commented that this is a major investment for the company.

"We chose Metso as the supplier because they are able to deliver a solid industrial-scale combined heat and power boiler capable of satisfying our need to supply various types of energy," Karlsson said.

Under the terms of the contract, Metso will deliver a power plant that uses bubbling fluidized bed combustion technology, and a flue gas condenser.

Designed for unmanned operation, the plant’s automation will be based on Metso DNA technology, with the company providing installation, training and commissioning services.

Scheduled to begin operations by late-2014, the plant will supply the district heating network and local industries with hot water of different temperatures.

In addition, it will supply steam to a local brewery and distribute electricity to the national grid.

The plant will use local forest residues such as bark and wood chips as fuel.

Metso power business line sales director Mikael Barkar said this is an important order.

"The project has been started successfully and in good cooperation with VEMAB," Barkar added.

VEMAB is owned by the municipality of Vimmerby and supplies renewable electricity and heat to local customers.
