Machakhela HPP 1 has selected the team of Landsvirkjun Power and Verkís Consulting Engineers as the preferred bidder for an engineering consultancy agreement to develop two 20-25MW hydroelectric power stations in Georgia.

The two hydroelectric power stations will be built on the river Machakhelistskali in the autonomous Adjara region and produce clean power.

Under the contract, Landsvirkjun Power and Verkís will investigate the construction site, carry out a feasibility study, and prepare the initial design for the projects.

The team will also prepare tender documents related to the project construction work; detailed civil works design, and review the design of the electromechanical and hydromechanical equipment.

Landsvirkjun Power and Verkís will construct both the hydroelectric power stations alike including the design, headwork structure, concrete dam, sand sluices and fishways, and a headrace and pressure tunnel.

The companies will also develop intake for tributary rivers, surge facility, surface powerhouse furnished with electromechanical equipment, tailrace channel, substation, and associated transmission line.

The team has subcontracted Peri, a local engineering company, and signed a sub-consultancy agreement with it.

Peri will be responsible for the site investigation work carried out by other local companies Geoengineering and Geographic and it will also be responsible for the engineering work executed by Georgian Water Power.

The completion of the two projects is expected to achieved by the end of 2015.
