Jordan has shortlisted 15 local and international companies to bid for a $150m solar power project to be built in Qweira.

The solar facility has been planned to be set up at Qweira in the southern Governorate of Aqaba.

The 75MW project will be supported with capital from the $5bn Gulf Cooperation Council grant, reports The Jordan Times.

Power firms including First Solar Electric, Elecnor, SunEdison Italia Construction, China Gezhouba Group International Engineering, Dongfang Electric International Corporation, Isolux Ingenieria and Guangdong Power Engineering Corporation of China Energy Engineering Group and Zhuhai Singyes Green Building have prequalified to offer bids for the project.

Winner for the renewable project will, however, be selected after the developers submit their technical and financial proposals.

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources spokesperson Haidar Gammaz was quoted by the daily as saying: “This is one of the important projects for Jordan and part of its strategy towards further adoption of renewable energy.”
