Green Mountain Power has established the first turbine at the 63MW Kingdom Community Wind project on the Lowell Mountain in the state of Vermont to produce clean energy.

The 63MW Kingdom Community Wind project will consist of 21 Vestas turbines of type V112 3.0MW to generate sufficient electricity to light up over 24,000 Vermont homes.

Green Mountain Power president and CEO Mary Powell said the company has made a tremendous progress on the project in the last couple of months and is eagerly anticipating the project’s commissioning.

"Kingdom Community Wind will be a major component of our power supply mix moving forward," Powell added.

"It will provide Vermonters with a clean, cost-effective and locally-produced source of power that aligns directly with Vermont’s renewable energy objectives."

The company is expecting the project to become operational by the end of 2012.

Green Mountain is planning for a biological monitoring of streams during and after the construction of the project and also collect water chemistry data of all the streams around the project to understand and protect the future water quality and maintain environmental standards.

The wind project will boost the economic condition of the region, create new jobs, and provide a Good Neighbor Fund to support five surrounding communities.
