Spain-based Gamesa has secured a contract to supply and deploy 56 of 50KW turbines for the construction of a 47.6MW wind farm in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The company signed the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the project with SJVN through its subsidiary Gamesa Wind Turbines in India.

Additionally, Gamesa will also conduct operations and maintenance services at the wind farm for 10 years.

The project is scheduled to be commission on or before 8 months of construction and consolidates Gamesa’s Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) customer portfolio in Maharashtra.

SJVN is a Mini Ratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) and is a joint venture with the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh.

Gamesa India chairman and managing director Ramesh Kymal said that the company welcomes SJVN in the wind energy customer base and the contract further demonstrates the credibility enjoyed by the Spanish wind energy major for being the most preferred destination for foraying into wind energy sector.

SJVN has recently begun foraying into wind power to diversify its offerings in the power sector.

The firm is primarily engaged in the generation of hydropower in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
