Edison International subsidiary Edison Mission Group (EMG) has begun construction of a new 42MW wind project in Nebraska, US.

Power generated by the Crofton Bluffs project is located in Knox County, will be sold to Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), under the terms of a 20 year power purchase agreement.

The power project will employ 22 wind turbines and will generate enough electricity to meet the power needs of 14,000 homes in the region.

EMG president Pedro Pizarro said NPPD is one of its biggest wind energy customers and Nebraska is one of the most important states in EMG’s wind energy portfolio.

"The state offers abundant wind resources and an economic and public policy environment that is supportive and welcoming of clean energy investment," said Pizarro.

"We are pleased to be working again with NPPD to provide environmentally friendly wind power to their customers."

NPPD president and CEO Pat Pope said the new wind project helps the utility meets its goal of securing 10% of its energy resources from renewable energy.

"The energy produced will be shared with other Nebraska utilities as we have done at the Ainsworth and other EMG wind farms," said Pope.

NPPD is currently working with Omaha Public Power District and other Nebraska utilities as partners in the project, which will be complete by this year end.
