National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India has awarded a contract to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) for the third phase of the Rammam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in West Bengal a state of India.
The contract won by the Indian power manufacturer has an estimated worth of INR2,250m ($36m).
Rammam Stage-III HEP is located in Darjeeling district in West Bengal and is being built on the river Rammam.
The state-controlled NTPC had floated an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process for the project.
According to the contract terms, BHEL will develop and supply 40MW hydro generating sets and associated electro-mechanical equipment for the project.
Besides the hydro power units, the plant will also be equipped with Pelton turbines and matching hydro generators.

By GlobalDataBHEL will be responsible for engineering, procurement, manufacturing, erection and commissioning of the sets at the facility, along with the associated electro-mechanical connections.
The project is expected to be completed within 45 months.
BHEL will build the hydro sets at its Bhopal unit, and the transformers at Jhansi.
While the firm’s Electronics Division in Bangalore will be responsible for developing the control and monitoring system for the facility, BHEL’s Power Sector for Eastern Region will conduct the erection and commissioning of the hydro power generating sets.
