The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has selected a consortium of Alstom and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) to provide the turbine generator package for the two units 7 & 8 of Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) located at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan.
Under the contract, the consortium will supply, install and commission the turbine generator packages for the two new 700MW capacity units of the nuclear power station.
The new units will increase the production capacity of the 1180MW RAPP nuclear power plant to meet the country’s growing demand for electricity.
Alstom nuclear business senior vice president Patrick Fragman said, "With India envisioning to increase the contribution of nuclear power to overall electricity generation capacity from 3.2 % to 9 % within 25 years, Alstom is well positioned to respond to the country’s ever-increasing electricity requirements."
Alstom share in the contract is around €100m.
NPCIL first contracted Alstom for the execution of RAPP’s unit 1 and unit 2 in 1973 and 1981.
