France-based Areva has been selected to supply wind turbines for the proposed 400MW Wikinger offshore wind farm in Germany.
Spanish offshore wind project developer Iberdrola is setting up the wind farm, spread across 34km² area, about 35km off the coast of the German Island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea.

Areva will supply M5000 turbines of 5MW capacity each, especially designed for use in large-scale offshore wind farms and manufactured at Bremerhaven, Germany.
The scope of work includes foundation and tower design optimization, project logistics, installation concept and project certification, equipment transportation, installation, commissioning and maintenance services.
Areva CEO Luc Oursel said that Iberdrola’s support for the company’s offshore wind technology reinforces the company’s growth plans for Europe.
"This new success further demonstrates the credibility of our long term growth strategy and our long term commitment towards renewable energies," said Oursel.
