
Welspun Energy (WEPL) is set to begin construction of a 50MW solar project in Maharashtra, India.
The project, which will be set up by Welspun Energy on a public-private partnership (PPP) model with Maharashtra State Power Generation (Mahagenco), will be installed in two phases.

Part 36MW will be installed on 74.74ha of government land while the remaining 14MW capacity will be installed following acquisition of 29.97ha required for the project.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said addressing the change in climate while balancing development needs is a critical priority area.
"We need to look for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and efficiently use energy sources," Pawar added.
"The government has been systematically working on its green energy agenda. Maharashtra has laid focus on solar and wind energy to secure energy access for the present as well as the future. The Baramati 50 MW solar project will be a major step in this direction and will certainly help to meet state’s green energy goals."

By GlobalDataWelspun Energy will invest 60% of the project cost and will receive 62% share in revenue while the power producer will be responsible for part-finance, design, and commissioning of the grid interactive solar power.
Welspun Energy managing director Vineet Mittal said the company is expanding its commitment to support the illustrious state of Maharashtra in meeting its RPO obligations.
"Best in class engineering practices and project management excellence contributes towards our success. We are committed to build this 50 MW project as the highest generating one in the country," Mittal added.
The project would reduce about 83,220t of carbon dioxide emissions each year and will generate enough green energy to power 24 million households over the next 25 years.
