Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has received a firm order to supply turbines for Wpd AG’s 72.6MW Tohkoja wind farm in Finland.

Vestas will supply 22 units of V117-3.3MW turbines under the supply and installation contract, which includes supply, installation, and commissioning of the wind turbines.

According to Vestas, V117-3.3MW turbine is best suited for medium- and low-wind sites with high turbulence onshore.

The turbine features Condition Monitoring System, Vestas Ice Detection, Vestas De-Icing Fire Suppression, Service Personnel Lift, Aviation Lights and can operate in up to – 30°C, Obstacle Collision Avoidance System.

Vestas has also signed a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement and the contract includes the Vestas De-icing System (VDS).

Vestas Northern Europe president Klaus Steen Mortensen said: "This project features the Vestas De-icing System, which ensures efficient operation even when ice build-up conditions exist. After many years of close collaboration on wind energy projects in Germany, we are pleased to be working with wpd on what will become one of the largest wind parks in Finland."

The company is expected to start the supplying the turbines in the second quarter of 2016, with commissioning expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Wpd AG has already started the construction of the 72.6MW Tohkoja wind farm in Finland after securing financing for the project.

The wind power developer has received debt financing from Commerzbank and Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale.

It has more than 270 projects in Germany alone and the Tohkoja wind power plant will be the developer’s third wind project in Finland.
