Danish wind turbine maker Vestas has received a firm and unconditional order from Latin America Power, for the supply of 56 units of its V117-3.3 MW turbines to a 185 MW wind project in Chile.

The turbines will be used for the 185MW wind project named San Juan located in Atacama, Chile and will be developed by Spanish firm Elecnor.

In May this year, Elecnor signed a $81m contract with Latin American Power to develop the San Juan wind farm which claimed to be the largest facility of this type in Chile.

Elecnor is responsible for the Balance of Plant (BOP), the engineering work, supply and construction of the plant’s transmission network.

The turbines will be delivered by Vestas during the first quarter of 2016, and the project is expected to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2016.

As part of the contract, Vestas will be responsible for supplying and installing of the wind turbines. The company has also signed a five-year full-scope Active Output Management (AOM 4000) service agreement with Latin America Power.

According to Vestas V117-3.3 MW turbines are suitable for medium wind-sites, and they can cut cut-in wind speed 3m/s, cut-out wind speed of 25m/s and rotor diameter of 117m.

The companies did not disclose the financial details of the deals of the deal.
