Suzlon Group has secured a contract to deliver and install 29 S97-120m wind turbine generators (WTGs) with all steel hybrid tower and five S97-90m WTGs with tubular tower to Gujarat Industries Power Company’s (GIPL) 71.40MW wind power project in Kutch district, Gujarat, India.

The company noted that each WTG will have a capacity of 2.1MW.

Expected to be completed in three phases, the project will be executed by April next year on turnkey basis.

Under the deal, Suzlon expects to provide operation and maintenance services to the facility for 20 years through an integrated service package.

Currently, the company provides maintenance and services to over 9GW wind facilities throughout India, accounting for around 37% of the country’s total installations.

Until March last year, Gujarat’s total wind installations were amounting to 3,645MW, out of which 1,742MW has been provided by Suzlon, reducing around 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in the state.

Claimed to be the tallest tower of its kind, the 120m S97-120m features both lattice and tubular structures.

Suzlon installed the prototype in November 2014, at Kutch, Gujarat and during its first one year of operation, the S97-120m produced 6.42 million kWh of power.

So far, the company has received 600MW orders for S97-120m WTGs.

Suzlon Energy chief sales officer Ishwar Mangal said: "Gujarat has been at the forefront of generating power through renewable energy sources and Suzlon has played a pivotal role in contributing to its renewable energy portfolio.

"We have developed one of Asia’s largest wind parks at Kutch (Gujarat) with current capacity of over 1GW as at 31 March and ongoing further installations."

Last year, Suzlon provided 31 WTG’s to Rouar’s 65.1MW Wind Energy Farm at Artilleros located near Tarariras city in Uruguay’s Colonia province.
