Sterling and Wilson has secured a contract to provide turnkey engineering procurement and construction services for a new 1177MWp solar PV plant to be located in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The deal also includes operation and maintenance of the plant, which is spread over a desert area of 7.8km².
Following completion, the new plant will become the largest single location solar PV plant in the world, replacing the existing 850MWp facility of its kind in China.
Construction of the new plant has already started, with complete integration with the grid expected within a period of 23 months.
The solar facility is developed by Japanese integrated trading and investment giant Marubeni, along with Jinko and Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA).
Besides, the consortium has successfully bid a tariff of $2.42 cents per kilowatt hour, which is the lowest cost for solar power.

Once commissioned, the 1177MWp plant will be able to power around 1,95,000 homes and can save nearly seven million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Last November, Sterling and Wilson entered into a deal with a consortium led by ACWA Power to construct a new 170MW solar PV facility in Morocco.
