Currently equipped with 35 turbines, the wind farm generates enough energy per year to provide power to nearly 60,000 homes.

Since its commissioning in 2012, the Gordonbush wind farm has spent nearly £20m in the procurement of goods and services from Highland businesses, including the local supply chain, during construction.

SSE project manager Michael Walker said: "We are a responsible developer and we look forward to building on the strong relationships we already have with the communities close to Gordonbush in East Sutherland.

"This sensitively designed project will blend well with the existing wind farm and will make best use of the existing infrastructure.

The Galway Wind Park is expected to complete next year.
