
Siemens has announced its deal to supply, install and commision 54 direct drive wind turbines.
The 3.2MW and a 101-meter rotor diameter turbines, will add another 172.8MW to Scottish and Southern Energy’s (SSE) Clyde wind farm extension in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Siemnes will also provide maintence service for the turbine project.
Siemens Onshore Wind Power and Renewables Division CEO Thomas Richterich said: "We are very pleased to continue the long and successful relationship with our customer SSE in an important project like the Clyde Extension.
"Our direct drive units improve performance, reliability and maintainability. We see this innovation in our products as a stable basis for further collaboration with experienced customers like SSE."
Clyde, with an existing capacity of 350MW, is one of the largest onshore wind power plants in Europe.

By GlobalDataThe Clyde wind farm currently has 152 operational turbines. It is SSE’s largest project till date. All of the existing turbines are Siemens’ 2.3MW units, which were commissioned in 2011 and 2012.
The construction of the extension commenced in July 2015 and will support an estimated 500 local jobs through direct employment.
The 54 turbines will be installed starting in June 2016.
The Clyde Extension will be completed in June 2017.
