Siemens to deliver 42 turbines to three 130MW wind farms in Italy by 2016 end
Three Italian wind power plants with a combined capacity of 130MW will receive direct-drive D3 turbines from German company Siemens by the end of next year.
Siemens has secured these three orders within a period of 12 months to supply its SWT-3.0-113 and SWT-3.2-113 wind turbine models, which are based on the company’s D3 platform.

While two 60MW projects will be located at Melfi, one 54MW project will be set up in the Basilicata region in southern Italy.
The order includes 42 direct-drive turbines, which have capacities between 3 and 3.2MW, for three wind farms.
Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division Onshore CEO Thomas Richterich said: "The order awarding process in place since 2012 has resulted in greater cost transparency for onshore wind power projects in Italy.
"We are therefore very pleased that we can highlight the efficiency of our direct-drive D3 wind turbines here and especially for three Italian projects at once within one year."
Since the last three years, the Italian regulatory authority Gestore Servizi Energetici (GSE) has been following a standard process for awarding contracts of wind farms, which have capacity to produce over 5MW.

By GlobalDataThe process is aimed at procuring low cost wind turbines.
The SWT-3.0-113 wind turbine has a noise emission option, which reduces rotor speed during operation at night.
Earlier this month, Siemens had won a contract to deliver, install and commission 12 direct drive wind turbines with 113 meters rotor diameters at Les Gourlous wind farm in the Champagne-Ardennes region of France.
The farm, owned by Austria’s WEB Windenergie, is estimated to have a capacity of 38.4MW and will supply green energy to around 35,000 households.
Under a 20-year service and maintenance agreement, Siemens will provide long-term service to the new project.
