Rurelec has started operating its 5.3MW hydroelectric plant which is located in Peru.

Owned by the firm’s 93% indirect subsidiary Empresa de Generacion Electrica Canchayllo, the facility is one of the six hydro power projects for Rurelec.

The plant is situated in the Junin Province, Canchayllo.

Rurelec is also responsible for construction of three more small hydro projects (6MW to 18MW each) in the same Junin region.

The firm had acquired Cascade Hydro in September 2013, which is a UK holding Company having over 300MW of hydro-electric projects in different stages of development in the country.

Besides maintaining ownership and development of power generation facilities on national and regional grids and isolated areas, Rurelec sells power on a wholesale basis. Power is usually sold by the firm on commercial terms, either through capacity payments or power purchase agreements.
