Pattern Energy has signed an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, to sell power generated from the 150MW Fowler Ridge 4 wind farm in Indiana, US.
According to a 13-year power purchase agreement, Amazon will be receiving clean energy from the facility, the construction for which is expected to start in April 2015.
Located in Benton County in the US, the project has been renamed Amazon Web Services Wind Farm (Fowler Ridge),
Commercial operation for the project is likely to initiate by late 2015 or early 2016.
Once operational, the facility is expected to generate about 500,000 MWh of energy annually which will be enough to power 46,000 US households.
Amazon will be using the power generated from the farm to power both its existing and future AWS Cloud datacentres.
Pattern Development presently owns 100% of the project, 120MW from which is expected to be acquired by Pattern Energy in the future.
