Once completed, the Dandan solar project will generate enough electricity to power about 10,000 homes and offset consumption of almost two million barrels of fuel oil and diesel.
Electricity generated by the proposed project will be sold to the Guam Power Authority (GPA) under two 25-year power purchase agreements.
The project is expected to help Guam achieve its renewable energy goals by 2015.
NRG Solar president and CEO Tom Doyle said the company aims to provide affordable and reliable clean electricity utilising innovative financing and procurement strategies that drive down the balance of system costs.

Boeing defense, space and security division vice president Tim Noonan noted the need of clean, affordable, and secure power in Guam and across the world.
"Our engineering, procurement and program management expertise coupled with NRG’s approach to providing leading edge energy solutions creates a powerful and capable team," Noonan added.
The solar project, which could help GPA save over $300m in a total fuel cost, will eliminate carbon dioxide emissions by over 40,000 metric tons annually.
