French renewable energy company Neoen is planning to start work on the $250m Hornsdale wind farm in South Australia.

Construction will commence on the first stage of the project which will have a power generation capacity of 100MW.

Once completed, the farm will have maximum capacity of 270MW, which could be scaled to 315MW.

The farm will feature up to 105 wind turbines located between 8km and 24km north of Jamestown. Power generated from the wind farm will be locally used and will be exported to the national grids.

It will also create 250 jobs during construction of the first stage.

Australian Climate Change Minister Ian Hunter said: "Climate change leadership, clear targets for renewable energy and associated regulatory support have made us competitive in the global race to attract investment for renewable projects.
