MHI and SBG provide their strategic expertise gained through developing and executing large-scale technology projects for industrial and government customers around the world.

BAT is a new age system that integrates aerospace and wind turbine technology to generate twice the energy generated through similar tower-mounted wind turbines.

BAT turbines has four components including a helium-filled shell that helps the turbine float and stabilises in the air, a lightweight conventional three-blade wind turbine, high strength tethers to hold the turbine in place, and ground station that is built onto a trailer platform for easy transport.

According to MHI the Altaeros BAT is a multi-purpose platform that will supply power, airborne platform to host communication, camera, or other sensor equipment to provide security services to remote and off-grid customers.

Altaeros CEO Ben Glass said: "There are over one billion people that live without access to reliable electricity and three billion who do not have access to the Internet.

"The BAT delivers a consistent power output from a containerized platform that is convenient to ship and install at remote sites, helping to significantly reduce reliance on diesel fuel for off-grid communities, disaster relief centres, island nations, and remote industries.

"The BAT is composed of a helium-filled shell that lifts a wind turbine to harness stronger and more consistent winds 600 meters (2,000 feet) above ground, roughly three times higher than the tallest existing tower-mounted wind turbines."
