The city allocated about 345 hectares of land for the project that, once completed, will generate 67MW of electricity using 21 wind turbines.
RWE Innogy, together with its cooperation partner BMR, has agreed to execute the wind farm project in two stages.
RWE Innogy managing director Hans Bünting said the company and its key partner the town of Bedburg are considering to set up the largest German onshore wind farm in the near future.
"The plan is in line with our new business model of increasing our work with partners. At the same time, we are expanding our presence in the Rhenish mining area: the Königshovener Höhe wind farm is already our fifth renewables-based project in the region," Bünting added.
