The new turbine with 103m rotor diameter is said to deliver high-efficiency output and attractive project economics, as well as increase annual energy production by 30% compared to its 1.6-82.5 wind turbine.
The company said that a 100MW wind farm powered by 1.7-103 is capable of generating electricity for about 13,000 Indian homes per year, while offsetting carbon emissions of 291,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
The turbine uses company’s evolutionary technology platform, which has been deployed in around 22,000 turbines that are installed globally, GE claims.
GE South Asia president and CEO said the launch of new 1.7-103 wind turbine is a testament to company’s commitment to energizing India and catering to country’s low wind speed environment.
